چکیده

Though the experimental studies on the activation of “photodynamic” medications was only published 1999, the FDA approved the use of the ALA (Aminolevulinic) in the dermatologic field. In substance, the PDT by using photosensitive medicines at a topical level (ALA and MAL), a luminous source with an appropriate wavelength for their activation, set the formation of protoporphyrin IX and when it returns to its native state, reacts with molecular oxygen and forms reactive species like the “singoletto” oxygen. The formation of this substance is to the base of the fall events that may lead to the destruction of the cellule through the:

Aminolevulinic acid (Levulan) in photodynamic therapy of actinic keratoses.

The role of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of in situ neoplasias and tumors of the skin is steadily increasing. Its principles of photodynamic action include an intratumoral enriched photosensitizer and light activation. Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) has demonstrated highest efficacy in topical PDT, and has become the most clinically useful. For actinic (solar) keratoses, topical ALA-P...

Photodynamic therapy: a review of the literature and image documentation.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) consists of a chemical reaction activated by light energy that is used to selectively destroy tissue. The reaction requires a photosensitizer in the target tissue, a light source and oxygen. The most extensively studied photosensitizing agents for PDT are 5-aminolevulinic acid for the treatment of actinic keratosis and methyl-aminolevulinate, which has been approved f...

Use of Photodynamic Therapy for Treatment of Actinic Keratoses in Organ Transplant Recipients

Solid organ transplant recipients are predisposed to actinic keratoses (AK) and nonmelanoma skin cancers, owing to the lifelong immunosuppression required. Today, increasing numbers of organ transplants are being performed and organ transplant recipients (OTRs) are surviving much longer. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is proving a highly effective treatment modality for AK amongst this susceptible ...

Photodynamic Therapy in the Management of Nonmelanoma Skin Cancers

Photodynamic therapy involves the use of light to activate a photosensitizer, localized in the diseased skin, resulting in the formation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species. Topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) is used to treat nonmelanoma skin cancers, such as actinic keratoses, Bowen's disease, and basal cell carcinoma, superficial as well as nodular. This article presents up-to-date, practica...

Photodynamic Therapy and Skin Appendage Disorders: A Review.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a noninvasive treatment that utilizes light treatment along with application of a photosensitizing agent. In dermatology, PDT is commonly used and approved for the treatment of oncological conditions such as actinic keratosis, Bowen disease and superficial basal cell carcinoma. In the last 2 decades however, PDT has also been used for the treatment of several nonne...
